In 2019, Tompkins Corners Cultural Center initiated its Visual Arts component. Our recently updated gallery will soon be dedicated to Maaike Hoekstra, TCCC’s late president. Maaike’s spirit was deeply invested in supporting the visual arts in our community. With the support of the Anne Anastasi Family Foundation, the Visual Arts team has been able to significantly develop Maaike’s dream of making a home for the visual arts at TCCC. A gifted ceramics artist and teacher herself, Maaike recognized the need for a place where the many professional and aspiring artists in our community could come to create and share their work. In our first year, the VA team presented crafts exhibits in the repurposed historic TCCC carriage shed and offered several watercolor and plein air painting classes within the center. The work of our talented watercolor artists has been displayed, complete with an open reception, with many more openings to come. We have expanded VA programs which now include continuing painting classes and fine art exhibits. Soon to come are crafts workshops and children’s events. Be sure you are on the Tompkins Corner’s Mailing List to get the latest on all upcoming events. Dr. Kathleen Hoekstra Visual Arts Chair yankate2@optonline.net |
