"Nature: Pushing It"

I am a commercial and fine art photographer. Major interests for me are plant life and light (Yes, very broad!) A lot of the photographs I create for myself are in the studio, where I can control the light and much else. These are from “Woods Walk Wonder” - photographs made while on hikes or walks. When I go outside I react to what I find and must adapt to the light that I find. The opportunities are much more fleeting. Sometimes a return trip is necessary to get the right light, as is lugging tripod and gear, so that I can make photos that express the joy and fascination that I have been fortunate enough to experience.

John became hooked on photography back in the mid 1970’s when he took his first black and white photography class in college. Over the years he began using medium and large format cameras, photographing both in color and black and white. He attended workshops with John Sexton which focused on black and white printing skills. All this time John was primarily a landscape photographer.
When John moved over to digital cameras, he became interested in wildlife photography, primarily birds, and especially raptors. He enjoys making portraits
of birds in their natural environment and showing them interacting with each other.
John’s work has appeared in various calendars and magazines. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and techniques with other photographers.
John lives in Hopewell Junction, NY and is recently retired after 41 years at IBM as a financial analyst.

Will’s love affair with photography began in the early 80’s. He first photographed subjects using B&W film, and developed images in a darkroom built by his older brother.
While Will enjoys more traditional styles of photography, his passion transcends when he is creating long exposure photographs, with particular emphasis on “Nightscapes” and light painting photography. He uses various tools i.e. flashlights, fiber optic brushes, flames, etc., to transform still photography into artistic masterpieces. People have often stated that Will’s photographs look like paintings.
Will’s work has appeared in numerous publications, galleries and businesses. In addition to doing commission work, Will loves sharing his extensive knowledge by teaching others. He loves to empower up-and-coming photographers, through both 1:1 and small group instruction.

Capturing moments of wonder is my passion. I love to photograph moments that will fade away and be gone forever, scenes that may be impossible to replicate. I use my photography as a way to show things which no words can describe. The scenes I photograph often cannot be expressed in words. Images are a way for me to express myself and show others nature's gifts. As a self taught photographer, born and raised in the Hudson Valley, I am always evolving my craft. I am also a kindergarten teacher, as an educator one of my goals is always to awaken wonder and awe in my students. I want to not only educate my students but also teach them to appreciate the beauty that surrounds them.

I’m a very passionate, self-taught amateur photographer, and have been shooting about 9 years now. I’m a father of two, with my wife and I living and raising our kids in Somers, NY. I graduated from the School of Art & Design at SUNY Purchase, with a major in Graphic Design. During the day, I work in a Marketing Department as Digital Creative Director and Website Designer/Developer. I’ve always had a love for all things creative. My father gave me and taught me how to use my first film camera. I’d taken a photography class in high school, learning about film and darkroom development. I do somewhat regret not taking classes in college though. I continued to dabble in shooting and eventually got my first DSLR. However, with the birth of my first child, that’s when things started to click, and I got more serious about wanting to push my knowledge and creativity behind the lens.
I’m primarily a landscape photographer, and so much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful Westchester Hudson River Valley surroundings that I’ve lived all my life. For the most part, I’m always shooting around Westchester County, and in the NY Tri-State area. Day to day life can be so hectic at times, and we tend to take things for granted. When I’m shooting in an environment, I often take a step back, take a breath, and it hits me again just how beautiful an area we live in. Especially when seeing it from a different perspective, like flying high above with my drone.
I love to learn, experiment, and try new things. Whether shooting landscapes, aerial, astro, sports, portraits, light painting, macro, or toy photography – I always try to push myself not only from a technical but also from a creative perspective. Recently, I’ve started experimenting much more with light painting photography. There’s just something about it that I’m drawn to. The whole creative and technical process of it throws me back to my earlier days of drawing and painting. However, it allows me to now paint elements in a 3-dimensional space to interact within a scene, which opens up a whole new level of creativity.
Whether my DSLR or iPhone, I try to have a camera on me at all times – you never know when inspiration will hit, or that perfect moment happens you’ll want to freeze for all time.

I bought my first non-cellphone camera in Fall 2014, started taking up photography as a hobby, and have been taking pictures every day since. I am self-taught, I learn by google or watch YouTube videos for information I need. I am a strong believer that the best camera is the one you have in your hands at the moment, you can always make the best out of it, taking pictures from the angle where the camera/lens works the best. I appreciate originality the most.
My motto is: I am happy enough to see wonders with my eyes, if I am lucky I get a picture of the wonder, if I am super lucky, I get a very nice clear sharp picture of it. Either way, I am happy. Life is good when you do photography.

I am a fine art photographer based in the New York City area. My passion for photography is evident in my details of architecture and nature, especially my favorite subject - trees.
Having the knowledge and experience, I am able to show different types of creativity and imagination that will allow me to shoot a picture that will bring my viewer to that place in time. Capturing the subject with magical lighting adds an additional dimension to the feeling the photo will convey.

I got interested in photography about 49 years ago when I first borrowed my dad's Polaroid camera. I enjoy taking photos of all that is Nature, reflections, sun rays shining through the trees onto leaves & flowers, macro photography & even rocks that appear to have faces etched into them. I started editing some years back when I had a not so good photo that I did not want to delete so I went into Photoshop & Lightroom to create an artistic look to it. I was amazed at the outcome of the photo & I have been hooked on creating different fantasy looking photos ever since. Hope you enjoy what my eyes see...

Eric Thornton photographs the social, urban, and natural landscape. His work is informed conceptually by social theory and ethnography, and in process by traditional analog photographic methods. Because of this, Eric prefers a hands-on approach to art-making, which connects him most closely to his subject. He works intuitively, from a place of curiosity and fascination, and considers his work to be a process consisting of equal parts reflection, exploration, and expression.
Eric presented his first solo show at Please Space in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in September 2019. “My Eye Reaches But Little Ways” grappled with the notion that “the arc of moral history bends towards justice”—a rhetorical device shared by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Abraham Lincoln. His second NYC solo show came shortly after, in February 2020, extending from and building upon this conversation. Curated by Wallplay (wallplayseaport.com) “Without Friction, There Can Be No Movement” addressed at the same time, and with equal urgency, the palpable tension of US politics and the artist's own nascent personal, spiritual transformation.
His first photobook, A Perspective on the Prototypes, was released in Mexico City at Zona Maco art fair (February 2019). A Perspective on the Prototypes is a concise photo-essay, telling of his travels through California to Tijuana, to document eight prototypes of the proposed border wall between the US and Mexico. The book is a discussion of cultural exchange and American colonialism and hegemony- a motif that emerges in much of Eric’s work.
Eric lives in Brooklyn, New York.

My dad first put a camera in my hands at the age of 12 and from there a life-long love affair has evolved into beautiful free flowing creativity. An art expressed by the photographer displaying its brilliant colors or moody tones of black and white. People, places, nature and things all have their magnificence just waiting to be captured.
I am a half breed meaning I grew up in Brooklyn, NY for the first half my life and the latter half here in the Hudson Valley. This has given me a unique experience as I photograph both sides of the fence or opposite sides of the bridges. Photography is a passion, an adventure and most of all a never ending learning experience which feeds my soul. One of my unique specialties in photography is capturing the moon with Iconic Buildings, Bridges and Structures which require precise plotting and planning.
Studio VAY currently exhibits at fine art shows, galleries, place of business and provides hands on experiences in the field. Keep an eye out for our commercial work for Bimble as I photograph the product all over New York State. Some of my images have been published in News 12 HV News, ABC news interview, many covers to multiple photography groups.
