More about our Juror

BIO: Wendie Garber

Wendie Garber is an active local artist specializing in oil and watercolor painting and a retired art teacher of the Hendrick Hudson School District and the Croton School District of Northern Westchester.  Wendie taught for thirty years but also opened up the “Flat Iron Gallery” in Peekskill’s historic “Flatiron Building” in 1996 which specializes in exhibiting contemporary fine art and handcrafted jewelry.

Wendie has a B.S. in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz, a M.S. in Education from Western Connecticut State College, and has studied art therapy extensively at the College of New Rochelle, and studio arts at the Westchester Community College Center for the Arts and the Garrison Art Center.

Over the last twenty-five years, Wendie’s paintings have been exhibited in galleries in Westchester and Putnam counties in numerous solo and group shows. Wendie has also curated five exhibits at the “Upper Gallery” of the Paramount Center for the Arts and produced group art exhibits for the Hudson Valley Hospital’s “Art for Healing” program in Cortlandt Manor.

Garber states: “There is no greater joy for me than painting “en plein air” in spring, summer, and fall. I love to express the serenity of the Hudson River and the many parks that border it. I also find great peace and beauty when I visit the gardens and the glorious fields of “Stone Barns” on the Rockefeller Estate in Sleepy Hollow. They have inspired many of my recent paintings.”
