John Cohen was the driving force behind our creation of the Tompkins Corners Cultural Center as early as 2013. It was his vision that we recognized and did our best to actualize. Our very first event, in June of 2015, was the opening of the Farmers Market and a showing of John's film, Fifty Miles From Times Square.
With his lifelong experience as a musician, photographer, filmmaker, writer, musicologist, record producer and world traveler, we knew John best as our friend and neighbor down the road. When the Methodist Church came up for sale in 2011, he and a few of us began meeting to figure out how to save the historic church and transform it into a center for the arts. And here we are, years later, fulfilling John's vision - with concerts, films, spoken word events, music jam sessions, a visual arts program and more. We will continue to present to you the world-class talent John found and brought to our attention. We will miss his inspiration and energy, but we will continue striving to make TCCC the hub of creativity that will honor John's leadership and commitment to the community of Putnam Valley and beyond. |
