Bruce Foley and John Nolan
Back by Popular Demand!

After a virtually sold-out performance last year, TCCC is thrilled to welcome Bruce Foley and John Nolan back to our stage in celebration of Irish-American Heritage Month.
BRUCE FOLEY & JOHN NOLAN - READ MORE
Audience favorites and longtime musical partners, Foley and Nolan deliver an evening of traditional Celtic music that is both deeply rooted and joyfully alive. Their performances showcase Bruce Foley’s rich, expressive vocals, masterful guitar work, and command of the uilleann pipes, alongside John Nolan’s dazzling virtuosity on the button accordion. Both musicians are members of the Mid-Atlantic Region Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Hall of Fame, and their musical bond reflects decades of playing together — a connection that, as Paul Keating once observed, “only really develops through years and years of shared music.” Bruce Foley has performed with luminaries including Andy M. Stewart, Tommy Sands, and James Kelly, toured internationally with Cherish the Ladies, and marked a career highlight playing uilleann pipes at Madison Square Garden for Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday. John Nolan, an All-Ireland accordion champion and the first American to win the title, is equally revered for his sensitivity as an accompanist and his command of traditional repertoire. Both appear on the latest Sailors on the Rock CD. Fresh from Joanie Madden’s Cherish the Ladies Folk ’n Irish Cruise, Foley and Nolan bring a program filled with driving dance tunes, soulful songs, and the kind of easy rapport that turns a concert into a shared celebration. |
Hildaland
A captivating fusion of folk traditions
Saturday, March 21st, 7:30 pm
|
Rooted in traditional Scottish music, the duo’s sound travels fluidly through progressive bluegrass and jazz, inspired by places and the journeys between them—both physical and musical.
Hildland - READ MORE
Hildaland brings together fiddle player Louise Bichan, originally from Orkney, Scotland, and mandolinist Ethan Setiawan, from Goshen, Indiana. Bichan and Setiawan met while studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Setiawan is a National Mandolin Championship winner who has performed with artists including Darrell Scott and Julian Lage. Bichan is an award-winning fiddler who has appeared on the BBC and performed at venues and festivals such as Edinburgh Castle and the Cambridge Folk Festival. The pair first collaborated as members of the four-piece band Corner House, which performed at Tompkins Corners in 2023. Hildaland emerged as an opportunity to explore the expressive possibilities of a stripped-down duo format. Their debut album, Sule Skerry, features reimagined traditional tunes alongside original compositions and select songs that “act as accents to an instrumental piece of work,” according to Bichan. Their latest EP, Fiddle Tunes, presents the duo in pure instrumental form, exploring the global language of fiddle music. Now based in New England while maintaining close ties to Glasgow’s music scene, Hildaland has developed a distinctive, innovative, and compelling voice within contemporary traditional music. |

Too Blue - READ MORE
Tompkins Corners Cultural Center is thrilled to present Too Blue, a band that defies musical boundaries and delivers a performance full of energy, skill, and joy. Known for seamlessly traveling between bluegrass, swing, Celtic, and jazz, Too Blue creates a live experience that is as dynamic as it is entertaining. Smooth harmonies, adventurous arrangements, and masterful musicianship bring each song to life, leaving audiences anything but “blue.” Their latest album, Trouble With the Grey, produced by Bob Harris of Ampersand Records, has earned national radio play and glowing praise from Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited. Fronted by the vocal synergy of guitarist Betsy Rome and banjoist Joan Harrison, with mandolin virtuoso Michael Sassano and inventive jazz bassist Jamie Doris, Too Blue blends technical brilliance with infectious fun. The result is bluegrass that swings, surprises, and captivates every audience. Don’t miss an unforgettable night of music that promises to lift your spirits and keep your toes tapping. |

TCCC Fall Benefit at Camp Combe
With Jay Ungar and Molly Mason
Sunday, September 29th, 2 - 5 pm
|
TCCC deeply values our community and relies on your support to continue bringing Tradition, the Arts, and Joy to Putnam Valley. Join us at Camp Combe, just a stone's throw from the Cultural Center, where ample parking and the camp's rich history await you. Come together with friends and neighbors for a great afternoon while you help us grow and thrive!
We're "calling" on you to spend a Fall afternoon immersed in extraordinary music, delicious food and beverages, and a vibrant sense of community. Experience the beautiful music of Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, masters of music and storytelling, and square dancing with Liz Slade. |
Jay’s fiddling is brimming with playfulness, drama, soulfulness, and technical verve as he explores the many musical styles and idioms he has internalized and made his own. Molly’s total mastery and inventiveness on piano and guitar is always spot-on, as she supports the tunes and follows the flow of the melody. Her rich and expressive vocals, along with the resonant strains of Jay’s violin, reveal the deep emotions that flow in the duo's veins.
Millions were entranced by the music they did for Ken Burns’ PBS documentary The Civil War. Their performance of the series’ signature tune, Jay’s haunting composition, “Ashokan Farewell,” earned the couple international acclaim. The soundtrack won a Grammy, and “Ashokan Farewell” was nominated for an Emmy. |

John Cohen, who became their mentor and bandmate, co-founded Tompkins Corners in 2015. He was a musician, photographer, and filmmaker who performed and documented the traditional music of the rural South and played a major role in the American folk music revival. John played with the Strugglers at every Brooklyn Folk Festival since the beginning, as well as at every Washington Square Park Folk Festival and many more all across the country, including at the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center, the Newport Folk Festival and more.
This project is made possible, in part, through the Putnam Arts Council’s Arts Link Grant Program with public funds provided by Putnam County.

"Together, the two have found an interesting common ground that's one part Woody-Guthrie-esque ruminations on the modern world and one part transcendent string band roots...new songs, old songs, fiddle tunes, it's all tossed together here in an overarching quest to find an authentic expression from two traditional masters brought together…” - The Folk Alley Review.
